OUR APPROACH

A work you love.
A choice you understand.

You might be looking for a particular work or exploring an artist for the first time. We discuss your interests and budget, then look across galleries, studios, auctions and private collections for suitable opportunities.

We explain our view of each work, arrange further checks where needed and support the purchase through negotiation, documentation and delivery. You decide whether to proceed.

01 / FIRST SALES

The primary market

This is a work’s first sale, usually through the artist or their gallery. An exhibition or studio visit can be a chance to see how a new work relates to the artist’s wider practice.

We help you explore the work, ask about availability and understand the terms of a purchase. Each gallery and studio works differently, so we approach enquiries individually.

02 / RESALES

The secondary market

A previously owned work may be offered through a collector, dealer, gallery or auction house. Some opportunities are advertised; others arise through private conversations.

We help find suitable works and compare their period, quality, condition and ownership history. Our recommendation explains how the individual work fits your collection and what you need to know before buying.

BEFORE THE DECISION

A recommendation
with reasons.

What we know.
What needs checking.
What should happen next.

ILLUSTRATIVE DECISION MEMO

A collector is considering a work on paper to complement an interest in post-war painting.

RECOMMENDATION: WAIT FOR FURTHER CHECKS

The work fits the brief, but the image alone cannot settle questions about condition or ownership. Request the ownership history, dimensions, medium and relevant signature or edition details. Arrange an independent condition assessment.

PUT THE DECISION IN CONTEXT

Compare documented works of a similar period and medium. Explain how quality and condition affect the comparison, and identify the questions still open. Past sales do not guarantee a future price.

AGREE THE NEXT STEPS

Review the purchase terms and practical arrangements. LAC coordinates the process; qualified specialists provide formal opinions where needed. Proceed once the outstanding questions are resolved and the client approves.
